I am not a believer in New Year's resolutions. I like many have prepared and attempted to live by them in the past, but witness their destruction towards January's mid-point.
So, a few years back, I decided to do something different; change things. I set goals -- financial, health, writing, and family - in December, and began following them well prior to January 1st, thereby ensuring, if properly following and adhering to said goals, I would be "up and running" when Times Square celebrated. It worked. Now, there were indeed some rough spots, where I had to redo a few goals, revise to fit a schedule as life pressed forward, but that's how all goals should be viewed: there's something to attain but, as obstacles and blind spots invade vision, sometimes "side streets" are more valuable than potholed highway. So, in a year where my challenges have been many -- laid off for the first time and forced back into the freelance writing world (which I love, by the way), weight gain, and the financial concern that unemployment brings -- it's time to peer not just at 2018, but also at the end of 2017, focus on what positives have happened and what indeed is positive now, be grateful for my lot in life, and move forward. If you're doing the same, I'd love to know it, and I invite you to comment below. Steve
