So, Charlie Brown's Fresh Grill has a Wayne location (1207 Hamburg Turnpike, 973-686-1901). This was nice to learn, especially since Sears family occasionally trekked all the way to their Denville and Chatham locations. Those treks were never a tiresome thing, it's just that it's nice to go to a different place, even though it's the same chain. The eatery changed their brand name and logo a few years back, but the quality is still there. A standard thing it seems nowadays in some Charlie Brown's locations are displays of old books. The Chatham location had a like setup, as does Millburn. My daughter Stefanie remarked that it was a shame that the books were in such disarray, to which I commented, "It looks like our basement library," referring to the 500 or so books I have that are treated as such...well, many of them anyway. Earlier photos of the location on social media show the books upright and uniform, so obviously through the years patrons have been investigating but not placing books back neatly. It serves as a reminder that I have to get to work on my own "Basement Bookshelf." Also, one of the many books pictured, courtesy of a kind server, became my property during our visit. An Untold Story: The Roosevelts of Hyde Park by Elliott Roosevelt and James Brough, is now somewhere behind me as I type this post. Anyway, on to cuisine. Feast your eyes on this juicy sirloin steak with mashed potatoes. Served normally with frizzled onions, I opted to bypass them, thereby making room on my dish for my many salad bar forays. The photo makes the serving appear small; it satisfied me. It's a Sears family favorite.
Service, as usual, was very good. Our server patiently answered questions about the menu items, and our wait for food was not long.
Charlie Brown's -- a New Jersey thing for over 45 years! Steve
