You know, when you first enter the doors of Barista Espresso (27 Horseneck Road in Fairfield (973-868-0067, www.baristaespressonj.com), that this visit - and all subsequent visits - will be something very special. Barista Espresso is clean, small (two tables) and intimate, and Manager/Owner Maria Sesko says a nice "Hello!" to you. You'll love this. Vermaris Garcia is the grill master (aka cook), and has been since opening day in June 2018. That's all the more reason to visit: these folks have a one-year anniversary celebration upcoming. Garcia not only makes a great breakfast sandwich, but her plate prep is also pretty nifty. Consider Lucille's ham, egg, and American cheese on roll ($4.25). A perfect way to start the day, or even for an early lunch. Nicely done, one half of the sandwich resting against the other. For my selection, I opted for Taylor ham, egg, and American cheese on roll ($4.25). There is also plenty of free parking lot parking available. For Sesko, who for a few summers used to on a daily basis drive from her Kearny home to High Point State Park (quite the commute, a testament to her dedication) to run a food stand for swimmers and park visitors, she's closer to home now, and indeed locals and business owners in the area are fortunate. She's brought a tiny bit of Heaven to Fairfield. Maria Sesko is pictured below on the left, Vermaris Garcia on the right. Thank you, Barista Espresso, which is (currently) open from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. We certainly will return.

Exactly one month ago today, daughter Stefanie and I enjoyed lunch and great service at Hurricane Sports Grill (1530 Route 46 West, Woodland Park, 973-890-9464, www.hurricanewings.com). We had been thinking abut visiting the eatery for a while, and the time had come,
Stefanie ordered a Cabo chicken avocado wrap ($10.99) with a side of garlic parmesan fries (an extra .99). It's pictured below. I was undecided between wanting a burger of some sort, or even a steak sandwich. But then the buttermilk crispy chicken sandwich ($10.99) menu listing caught my eye and, with a little peppered praise for its quality from Sophie, I went for it -- served with house fries. Fantastic! "It was nice to meet you guys. Please come back soon, okay?" said Sophie as we were leaving.
We will, Sophie. Great cuisine and customer courtesy go a long way. Steve |
