Our final dining post prior to a brief hiatus finds us in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, right along very busy Route 4. Here's some advice: pull off the road and relax a bit at Gotham City Diner (39-10 Broadway, 201-398-9700, www.gothamcitydiner.com), which also has a 550 Bergen Boulevard location in Ridgefield. Here's is a pretty nifty thing about Gotham Diner. You don't have to venture into "Gotham" to enjoy super food, service, or atmosphere. You're close enough to New York City at either location, and in the Fair Lawn eatery, ownership brings the big town atmosphere to you, the customer, with its decor. The afternoon of our visit, Lucille and I had a short amount of time to order our food and eat, and our server, Kristin Cospito, addressed this need very well. She was extremely friendly, took our order the moment we were ready, and saw to it that our food was delivered promptly - and with a smile. Lucille ordered a favorite of hers, a grilled America cheese sandwich on rye ($5.25). I'm not sure which one of us took the initial bite of the sandwich prior to its photo op; one of us was the recipient of tastiness prior to the other. My selection was an old favorite: a medium rare cheeseburger ($6.75). And yes, that's American cheese on both sides of the bun.
Kristen and Gotham Diner, thank you. A visit to the Gotham City Diner was apropos time-wise and food quality-wise. In the future, I think a longer, more comfortable visit -- where we can enjoy our food without having to depart right away -- is definite.
