Nothing compares to dining in a New Jersey shore town in the off-season (emphasis mine). The Sears family recently trekked over 75 miles to visit one of the Garden State's natural wonders, Island Beach State Park. After our visit to the placid area, we needed a nice eatery to compete an almost perfect day. Lenny's Pizza & Italian Grill (406 Route 35 North, Lavalette, 732-830-1500) was the place, a terrific team complementing terrific cuisine. We were greeted very cordially by Keira, the host, and our server was Makaela, who was patient while explaining menu options and extremely affable when engaged in conversation at our table. Our order was a simple one: a medium, half plain, half sausage pizza ($14.50), well done, light on the sauce, and a sausage and broccoli rabe appetizer ($10.50). Delicious food, which encouraged us to one day return (that's a 150-mile round trip, folks) and enjoy entrees.
Well deserved, Lenny's Pizza & Italian Grill folks.
Maybe the universe can airlift this super eatery to Essex County. If not, Phil, Keira, and Makaela, the car is warming up and we'll be down again soon. Steve
