Thank you, Lignos family, and thank you to Sue, our server for great hospitality during an early, Tuesday afternoon visit to Manny's Preakness Diner (Preakness Shopping Center, Hamburg Turnpike, Wayne, New Jersey, 973-694-9260). The afternoon of our stop for a late breakfast, Manny's Preakness Diner customers included a police officer, high school students, shopping center shoppers, and I'm going to assume locals who frequent the almost 30-yea-old eatery. They obviously know what my wife and I learned: comfort and good food is nearby. I ordered a grilled cheese and Taylor ham sandwich on rye ($5.95). Delicious, hearty and substantial...need I say more? This was an excellent sandwich. Lucille selected a favorite of hers, a bacon omelette with a side of home fries and wheat toast ($7.55). Equally good tasting, this meal went a long way, and is highly recommended if you're in the mood for a great breakfast entrée. The great thing about Manny's Preakness Diner happens prior to your entering the eatery: free parking. Many spaces are to be had just a short walking from the front door, and once inside comfortable seating, great service, and very good food await.
Dependable is the appropriate word here. You don't stay in business in the hospitality realm without providing quality, even amidst changing times. Manny's Preakness Diner is a proven victor. Steve
